A Case of Duodenal Leiomyoma as a Cause of Massive Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Abstract
|

|
Leiomyomas of the duodenum re rare neoplasma which usually present a vague, non-specific symptoms and so it is hard to diagnose.
Clinical manifestations are abdominal pain, palpable abdominal mass, hemorrhage, intestinal obstruction and perforation.
Author experienced the patient who was brought to the emergency room with massive melena followed by impending shock state.
Emergency laparotomy was performed under the impression of the ulcerated bleeding in the duodenum, and subsequently revealed as a solid tumor mass measuring 2×1.5×1.5㎝ at the second portion of the duotenum.
Here we report a case of duodenal leiomyoma associated with massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage and a review of the literature.
